The Story Behind Airfare Alerts

Travel has always been a passion of mine. Every couple of months, my girlfriend and I would plan a weekend abroad. We loved the thrill of exploring new places, but to make this possible, we had to be mindful of our budget, especially when it came to flights.

For years, we had a routine: spending hours—sometimes entire weekends—combing through flight options, hunting for the best deals. But flight prices were unpredictable. They’d fluctuate wildly, and the old advice of booking early didn’t always work. In fact, we started noticing patterns—like prices often being higher on weekends —so we shifted our search sessions to midweek evenings, hoping for better luck. But no matter when we searched, the process was time-consuming and frustrating.

We tried using all the usual price alerts and notifications from the major flight search engines, but they never really worked for us. The notifications were either too late, or they’d be for flights we didn’t want at inconvenient times.

Then came the tipping point. One night, we found an amazing deal for a weekend in Lyon—€ 49 for a roundtrip. It was late, and my girlfriend had an early shift at the hospital the next day, so I figured I’d book the flights in the morning. I took a quick screenshot and we called it a night.

The next morning, I woke up, made my coffee, and eagerly opened my laptop to book those flights. But instead of the € 49 deal we’d found, the price had shot up to € 103. In just a few hours, the cost had more than doubled. That was it— no Lyon, no weekend getaway. Just the sinking feeling of seeing our plans disappear in an instant.

By morning, the same Lyon flight had jumped to € 103—double the price overnight.

That experience was the turning point. I was done with wasting time searching for flights and losing out to unpredictable price hikes. As a software engineer, I decided to build something better—a tool that would automatically track flights for my favorite destinations and notify me when prices dropped to something affordable. No more staying up late or hoping for a lucky deal.

The tool worked so well that we started traveling even more—sometimes every month. And soon enough, friends started asking how we were able to travel so frequently without breaking the bank. My answer was simple: by consistently saving on flights, thanks to this tool. It wasn’t about gimmicks or shady discount sites—it was about staying ahead of the airlines’ dynamic pricing with real-time alerts.

That’s when I realized this tool could help more than just us. I turned it into Airfare Alerts , so that anyone could benefit from finding affordable flights without the hassle. Now, we consistently save dozens— sometimes even hundreds—of Euros on flights, giving us more freedom to travel, experience the world, and ultimately live a more fulfilling life.

With Airfare Alerts, you can do the same—spend less time searching and more time exploring.
